what’s a good amount of money to bring to the casino – when planning to play the 5 dollar tables for example if I want to be conservative for my first time and have a realtively chance of walking out ahead? I could probably comfortably bring 1,000 dollars and spend the whole day there if i have to.

    Nate,

Good question. I answered that question here: http://www.blackjackapprenticeship.com/2008/08/how-much-money-should-you-bring-to-the-casino/.

But remember, the goal isn’t to have a relatively good chance to “walk away ahead”, but to generate positive EV. When you generate positive EV, you will make money over the long run.

    Thanks Colin! That was helpful!!!!

Hey if I went to a casino with $100 bankroll what betting unit or strategy would you recommend for me so I could double my bankroll (to $200 playing high-low) before I leave the casino?

    Alex,

Unfortunately, it’s not that simple. You can generate EV, but there’s no guaranteed outcome. If you play perfectly, you still lose roughly 45% of the time. With a $100 bankroll, I’d recommend only wonging in at a true 1 or higher, and using a $5 betting unit ($5 per true count). But there’s still going to be a reasonable chance you won’t win $100. Then again, there’s a reasonable chance you will!

    Hope that helps.
