why do the cards hav holes in them?

  3. colin says:

They’re “Canceled cards” from a casino. Casinos change their cards every day. They usually either sell or give away the old cards, but they punch a hole through them or clip off the corners so that people don’t try to cheat somehow, by sneaking the cards back into the casino.

    mik,

i’m assuming you mean the cards from the Training Kits. These cards were used in actual play in casinos. When casinos are done with them they punch a hole through them so they can’t be used at the table again. We use these cards to train with because they are the most authentic.

I’m sorry, but i don’t get, how the Running count is 3? there is King, king, and six. king+king is 2, six is -1. 2-1=1 ??

  6. admin says:

Hi Ronny, the example is assuming that we have a running 3 after those cards came out.

Second, you’ve got your counting backwards… Kings (high cards) are -1, and the 6 (low cards) would be a +1. So what is on the table accounts for a running -1. So the running count before that round must have been +4.

  7. joe says:

okay but if the count +5 and the divide between 3 = what

  8. colin says:

    Joe,

5/3 would be a true 1 and 2/3, but we would just round it down (floor it) to a true 1. So if you had a running 10 with 3 decks left, you’d have a true 3 1/3, but round it to a true 3.

  9. joe says:

so i have to get the true count after each deck is deal? or when

  10. colin says:

    Joe,

You need the true count for 2 things: betting decisions and playing deviations. So whenever you would need to decide what to bet (between each round) or whenever you would decide whether to deviation from basic strategy (every time you have a hand with a potential deviation), you need to convert from the running count to the true count.

So you’re calculating the true count at least in-between each round.

hi i enjoy this site however my casino has auto shufflers is thier a possible way to work on average count? example only two tens and 1 ace has been shown in 15 cards therefore im above average that this round i have a higher rate to get blackjack, or is this not possible?

  12. Kinetic says:

Counting cards does not work against Continuous Shuffle Machines (CSM). Look for games that are dealt out of a shoe. They are out there, and chances are that your local casino has them (just not as many as the CSM tables)

    1. Here, in Europe, we play with 8 decks… so how can I find the right basic strategy chart ? and how will I after that find the proper deviations chart ?

    2. If you could alse explain a bit more, deviations…when to use them, under which conditions ?

  14. colin says:

    Tom,

The fact that it’s 8 decks doesn’t change anything. However, there is a slightly different basic strategy if the dealer does not take a hole-card, and the player loses splits and double-downs when the dealer has a Natural (blackjack). You can get the European basic strategy here: http://wizardofodds.com/blackjack/strategy/european.html

Deviations are times when you will deviate from basic strategy. They are times when the count demands playing different from basic strategy. They aren’t “necessary”, but add significant value to your blackjack game. The majority of your money is made from your betting strategy, but deviations give additional value as well as lower your risk.
