Dear Ben/Colin,
Thanks again for your insight. The new site looks great.
I had one question regarding the new deviation charts versus the old; it appears the new charts leave out some of the deviation numbers plotted on the old chart, i.e. only the red numbers appear. I was wondering why you decided to remove non-red deviations. Would I be at a loss to keep using/memorizing those old numbers?
Andy,
It definitely be a loss to memorize MORE numbers than the red ones that we include. We removed them for simplicity. Although, additional number add very minimal value it is a value none-the-less. I would say this though, if there are other areas of your game that could use the time and effort I would focus on those first.
Thanks for the feedback and we hope you enjoy the new site!
Ben
Marko, interesting question. I don’t know how common sense I’d say deviations are. But I feel like, when you understand the game, and why counting works, then deviations make sense.
Most deviations fit into one of 2 categories:
1. The count is high, so I want to put more money on the table (like doubling a hand that you wouldn’t normally double)
2. Since the count is high, I’m more likely to bust, so I shouldn’t hit right now.
WHAT ISN’T COMMON SENSE IS KNOWING AT WHAT TRUE COUNT TO DEVIATE. A lot of players play by principles, but fail to follow the strict deviation numbers. That is a dangerous move.
Yeah. Same deviations for various numbers of decks. Some people use different deviations at different numbers of decks, but the changes are so small, it’s not worth it, in our opinion.
I´d like to know if these 20 deviations numbers are the only ones or if there are more. I found a website that claims there are around 30 deviations numbers. Is that information correct?
There are more deviations that we list, BUT the ones we list give you the most EV. The percent advantage and EV you gain from the others really don’t make it worth memorizing. No need to clutter your brain more than necessary.

do you use these deviation charts in any kind of blackjack game, whether its a 4 deck shoe or a 6 deck shoe?
