Hey whats up man nice videos and nice site and i like your biography too your a cool guy stayed up all night reading it anyway ive never been to a casino but im planning on going very soon and counting cards and stuff and i was wondering if you could take the basic strategy cards in the casino with you and look at them at the table? Sorry if thats a stupid question.
Yeah, you can bring a basic strategy card in. I wouldn’t bring a full paper, probably. Just don’t tell them that you’re trying to learn how to count cards!
Hey man. You guys are really awesome for putting free videos up. We are forming an ‘army’ here too in your following because we are motivated by your passion. BJApprenticeship FTW. Thanks for sharing man, we think it’s pretty noble.
Hey great vids, you are really helping people here unlike some other sites that don’t really help at all. My question is concerning the 8 pairs. I’m sure you have gotten this alot but whats with the myth that you should not split 8′s against a 10 or ace? Is there any reasoning behind this like for advance card counters? Just thought I should ask.
For Basic Strategy players, always split those 8′s. Don’t think of it as trying to win two hands, but trying to not lose a 16. By splitting you have a higher chance of making at least one hand better and therefore perhaps winning one and losing the other. Thus a break even.
Really basic question, but if you split, then you treat them as two separate hands with hard values, right? And you act accordingly based on the hard values chart?
On another site, I read that if the dealer hits soft 17 then you should surrender 88 vs. an A. Also, I notice that with A7 vs. a dealer 2-6, the rule is to double, else stand. Is the reason for the descrepancy with the 88 vs. A and the fact that it is emphasises so much that you should double A7 vs. 2-6 else stand because the EV’s are so close on both decisions that if you do one play instead of the other than your EV will hardly be effected?
Greg,
Yes, you’re absolutely right. Technically, it’s better to Surrender 8,8 v A in a soft 17 game, but the value is really negligible. Our deviations give 98% of the value with the 21 deviations stated. Many people try to memorize 50 deviations when it doesn’t give you hardly any more value than the initial 20 deviations. You are better off sticking to the deviations we have, and put the rest of your mental energy into getting faster, more efficient, and 100% precise all the time!
You say never split 10′s, I assume this is only in the basic strat. When counting cards with a very high count, don’t you split vs. a 5 or 6? although I realize this will draw some heat from the pit boss.
Yes, this is only for basic strategy. If you see our deviation charts, it shows when to split 10′s. Whether you chose to not use that deviation for the sake of cover is up to you.
Make sure if you go to a casino that you have practiced for about a year with like two hours a day or you are just going to lose all your hard earned money.

That’s correct Marcel. Once you split, each hand becomes it’s own and you treat it accordingly.
