The third thing you need to know to beat blackjack is deviations. This video introduces you to that concept.

1.  Basic Strategy

2.  Counting Cards

3.  Deviations

What about varying the amount you bet based on the true count, why is that not included in the basic videos?

  2. Kinetic says:

Brain – We can’t give it all away. ;)

  3. CaseyJones says:

quick question kinda sounds dumb but, even with a high true count you could still lose right?

  4. Kinetic says:

That is correct Casey. We win in the “long run” which could easily be a few hundred hours of play. A high count doesn’t automatically equal winning.

  5. Steve says:

I have watched the videos but still have some deviation questions for you. On soft 19 versus 4 and 5; what are those deviations. Are they to dd? With soft 17 versus 2, is that deviations to dd? With hard 9 against 2 or 7; is the deviation to dd? Same with hard 8 versus 6. Thank you for your time and effort.

  6. colin says:

    Steve,
Correct on all of those you mentioned… Double Down.

  7. Jayden says:

1 Q when is the table hot ? what i mean is +? should it be for a player signal the other player 2 join ? tq

  8. Jayden says:

srry and when 2 leave? thanks

  9. colin says:

    Jayden,
I’m not quite sure I understand your question.

  10. Jayden says:

Well my question(Q)is about a team play, u must be familiar with the words spotter and big player so my Q is when is the table hot ? + what should it be for a table to be hot? like +5 and up or +10 and up? so the spotter could signal the big player to join the table. I dont know if this Q is for premium members well I hope not. thanks

    Jayden,

It depends on the rules for the casino, but typically at a true 1, the player gains the advantage.

  12. Waun says:

Hey If I successfully learned basic strategy, card counting, and deviations, how do I come up with a betting strategy, and a deviation strategy? So I could know what to bet and when?

If I have successfully learned basic strategy, card counting, and deviations. How do I learn to come up with a betting strategy and betting deviations so I could know what to bet and when?

    Bill,

There isn’t a simple answer to that. That’s why we don’t just have a chart of what to bet. It depends on your bankroll size, the rules of the game you’re playing, penetration, risk tolerance, etc.

My advice is to purchase CVCX. You can calculate your EV based on bet spreads for various rules, penetration, etc. Then you can craft your bet spread to your own circumstances.

But a really generic rule of thumb is to use at least a 1-6 bet spread. So if you’re betting $10 at a true 0, then bet $20 at true 1, $30 at true 2, $40 at true 3, $50 at true 4, and $60 at true 5 and higher. That’s not what I bet, but it’s a really basic rule of thumb to make sure you have enough of a bet spread to beat the game (even that isn’t guaranteed, if the rules are crappy enough).

Sorry there isn’t an easier answer, but there are so many factors involved. We also offer bankroll coaching. We will be hands on with your situation to help you find out the best bet spreads for your bankroll size, etc.

Also, you can ask questions in the member’s forum as well. There’s a lot of smart guys in there that can offer some advice.

  15. Bill says:

Ok At a negative true count is it best to bet the minimum bet?

  16. colin says:

    Bill,

Yes! Better yet, if it goes very negative (like true -2), get out of there. It’s really expensive to play negative shoes. The casinos advantage goes up as the true count goes more negative.
